On Saturday 18th January, 96 excited students from Years 8-11 set off on an exciting week-long journey to Spiazzi, Italy, to master the art of skiing, enjoy new experiences and forge lasting friendships.
Day 1 Saturday - Our first day of travelling was generally uneventful. We travelled by coach to Dover, catching the ferry and then the long drive began! Through France and Switzerland eventually arriving in Italy.
Day 2 Sunday - When we arrived at our resort on Sunday afternoon, students took in the beautiful view and hotel and got checked into their rooms. It was then time to get organised! Students had to get their ski boots fitted and checked, as well as their skis. All organised and ready for the morning it was time for dinner and bed after a long 2 days of travelling!
Day 3 Monday - First day skiing! Students were put into groups and began learning all the basics. They did a fantastic job in their groups. An extended dinner of a variety of pizzas that all students had an opportunity to try was a great way to recover from the first full day of skiing! In the evening the students had free time to relax and socialise in the games room!
Day 4 Tuesday - On the 2nd day of skiing, the students were excellent at getting organised in the morning and getting all their ski equipment ready. Another great day on the slopes saw some excellent progress! After skiing the students took the ski lift up to the top of the mountains! They enjoyed time taking photos, and enjoying the cafe too.
Day 5 Wednesday - It was our 3rd day of skiing and students had progressed rapidly; going up to the harder and stepper slopes! In the evening the students got into teams for the local scavenger hunt, where they had lots of tasks to do! After that, it was time to pack up suitcases and get ready for the final day!
Day 6 Thursday - The final day of skiing! Students were excited for their last day of skiing, and all students had the opportunity to go down different slopes depending on how advanced their skiing skills had become!
After skiing, it was a military operation to get all 96 students showered and ready to travel home. Luckily all the students were great and ready for an early dinner and to be picked up in the evening to start the journey home!
Day 7 Friday - Home!! The coaches were full of sleeping children on the way home with the busy week catching up with them. An oncoming storm threatened to delay our journey, but thankfully it didn’t and we were able to get home slightly earlier than planned. We did, however, have a very choppy ferry journey home! We arrived back to Lealands by 5.45pm where we were greeted by excited families looking forward to hearing all about the week.
Everyone had an amazing time, including the staff. We were extremely thankful for no major injuries and everyone getting home safe and sound.
The ski trip was an unforgettable week which we hope we can repeat in the future!
